Setting up AutoCAD 2000 and Windows for Oracle ODBC connectivity

First, you need to set up Windows. In Windows NT 4, select Control Panel/ODBC Data Sources. In Windows 2000, select Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Data Sources (ODBC).    From here, in both cases select System DSN and ADD the name you wish to call the source.

Use Microsoft ODBC for Oracle

Initially the configuration screen will be smaller and may be all you need but select the Options button to see all.

Now your ready to set up AutoCAD. These instructions are for AutoCAD Map and may differ slightly from AutoCAD. From the menu bar select Map/Database/Datasources/Configure . . .

Name your new ODBC source and select OK

Use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers

Enter the system ODBC source name that you defined in the Windows Control Panel. I also use "Allow saving password" but you can select according to your needs. Make sure to test. Its easier to find a connectivity error now rather than later.

Make sure to select here. I ALWAYS use ReadWrite.

Your all set. Keep in mind that this only defines your connection. To establish your connection your must either write the connection code to run in your application or select Tools/dbConnect, right-click on your new source and then select Connect to open the database.
